Tis the season for Spring cleaning…and that includes your riding equipment! Proper care and cleaning are an important part of keeping your helmet or vest in working condition. Keep reading to learn more about the do’s (make sure your helmet/vest is dry before storing) and don’ts (helmets don’t belong in the dishwasher!) of taking care of your helmet or vest.

More in depth care instructions for your specific helmet or vest can be found in the product manual. Please reach out if you have any questions about caring for your Tipperary helmet or vest!

Post-Ride

We know that time in the saddle can mean sweat! Make sure to let your helmet/liner or vest dry out completely before putting it away until your next ride. When allowing your helmet/vest to dry out, never leave them in direct sunlight as this can damage the materials of your helmet/vest.

Cleaning Your Helmet

Do not use chemicals to clean your helmet, they can cause damage to the padding, the shell and its protective coatings. Never fully submerge your helmet, or clean it in the dishwasher!

Outer Shell: Remove the liner. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean the air vents. Lightly wash the outer shell with a soft cloth and mild soap, rinse with a clean cloth and clean water to remove any soapy residue.

Liner: Remove the liner. Hand wash with cold water and mild soap, never machine wash or dry clean.

Cleaning Your Vest

Whether your vest has Velcro or zipper closures, make sure the closures/zipper are kept free of lint, dirt, horse hair etc. Vests may be spot washed as needed with lukewarm water using a mild detergent, and spot rinsed with cold water, and hung to dry. Never use harsh chemicals to clean your vest. Do not fully submerge your back/body protector, or put in the washer or dyer.

Be sure to check your individual product manual before cleaning your vest, as the instructions can vary between products depending on their material and construction.
